Wellness Wednesday - Tricep Stretch
We hope you found new relief with our previous entry, the biceps stretch. Today we will keep with the arms and work on a triceps stretch. Before we get into the stretch we will tell you a little about the triceps muscle. It lies on the posterior side of the upper arm. It is the primary muscle used for extension of the forearm. It is called triceps because it has three heads, just as the biceps has two.
The long head rises from the infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula. The medial head rises from the below the radial groove and the lateral head rises from above the radial groove. The triceps muscle inserts into the olecranon process of the ulna. The action of the triceps, beyond forearm extension, is extension and addiction of the arm and extension of the shoulder.
- Raise one arm straight above you, then bend your elbow so that your forearm is behind your head.
- Gently push your bent elbow back with your other hand.
We want to hear from you, how has this stretch and last week’s stretch helped you? We want to hear all about it!
