Wellness Wednesday: Meditation Benefits - Anxiety Reduction

A reduction in stress results in a reduction in anxiety.


For example, an eight-week study of mindfulness meditation helped participants reduce their anxiety.


It also showed a reduction in symptoms of anxiety disorders, such as phobias, social anxiety, paranoid thoughts, OCD behaviors and panic attacks.


Additionally, another study conducted followed up with 18 participants three years after they had completed an eight-week meditation program. Most volunteers maintained lower anxiety levels over the long term as a result of continued meditation practice.


Another example to reinforce these findings, yoga has been shown to help people reduce anxiety. These benefits likely stem from both meditative practice and physical activity. 


Regularly practiced meditation can help reduce anxiety and anxiety-related mental health issues like phobias, social anxiety,and OCD behaviors.
